Even countries that do have seat belt laws in place don’t necessarily enforce them. Don’t get caught up in the moment and ditch your own seat belts just because you legally can.
You should also wear your helmet when riding a motorcycle. About 71% of countries have helmet laws in place, but you should wear your helmet either way.
Get Proper Insurance
Traffic gets quite intense in some other countries. Some countries are also known for drivers who don’t always follow the rules of the road or adhere to what we would consider standard safety precautions behind the wheel. Italy, Spain, Vietnam, and China, in particular, are countries known for having bad drivers. You may be involved in an accident that isn’t your fault, but even in that case, you need proper insurance.
Before you leave on any trip, call your insurance company to learn about plans that will cover you while driving at your destination. You should also consider insurance that the rental car company provides, though typically, your insurance serves as primary coverage if you do not purchase coverage from the rental car company. In any event, don’t skimp on insurance.
Do Not Assume Road Rules
Most people assume the laws in the United States are the same in other areas. Many countries have seemingly odd laws regarding driving. For example, in Sweden, drivers use lights 24 hours a day, and in Russia, there are standards regarding the cleanliness of your vehicle. Learn the rules of the road in your travel destination to avoid an annoying ticket. Remember that ignorance is not a defense in the eyes of the law.
